EARTH TIME
EARTH TIME
Earth has existed for 4.6 billion years. Instead of a timeline I was interested in showing proportionally the various eons and eras before humans evolved in an attempt to put our presence in perspective. We have been here as a species for 300,000 years, too small of a number to represent in this mosaic. (yes, the little ceramic hand represents us, al-though not to scale.)

‘The Anthropocene’ is a new term referring to the current geological age during which human activity has been the dominant influence on the environment and all the life-forms with whom we share this precious planet. While the classification is not yet ‘official’, it recognizes the drastic changes for which we are responsible. Global population was 4 million people at the start of the Holocene Epoch, a mere 11,400 years ago; we just reached 8 billion in November, 2022.
