PUBLIC ART MOSAICS
I have created numerous Public Art mosaics and this is my primary engagement as a mosaic artist. I enjoy working large and tackling all the challenges that ensue. This includes a lot of collaborating and communicating with stakeholders and making sure my finished product is always beyond expectations. Displayed here are some of my career highlights (and favorites). Splash Pad mosaics have become a specialty, I have been involved with 3 large scale splash pad mosaics in Deerfield Beach,FL, Lauderhill, FL and one that will be installed this fall in Tamarac, FL. Information on the public art mosaic process with more details and photos is on the page "Commissioning a Public Art Mosaic", with 'Jackie Gleason, Golfing Days' at the Lauderhill History Museum in Lauderhill, FL as the example. Other public art mosaics are on the page, Hospital Mosaics.
SHELBURNE FALLS MOSAIC MURALS PART 2
New mosaics for SHELBURNE FALLS, MA!! Very excited about these newest mosaics for our lovely village of Shelburne Falls. Funded by a MASSDevelopment grant, Local Cultural Councils and crowd-source monies. All are located down River St in Buckland, a short walk from McCusker's market.
TAMARAC VILLAGE AMPHITHEATER
The Tamarac Village Amphitheater 'METAMORPHOSIS' was a project started in 2018 and continued during Covid lockdown. Each of the thirteen panels measures 45" wide x 72" high. Each panel (- actually 'panel ' is a misnomer as the mosaics are held together with face-mounting adhesive) was labelled and divided into 6 sections for installation directly onto the wall. Below is completed mosaic, April 2023.
JACKIE GLEASON PARK SPLASH PAD |
The theme of the mosaic imagery is Urban Wildlife. I really enjoyed working on this project and creating these wonderful animals WAY larger than life. The material is 1" x1" Keystone DAL tile, an unglazed porcelain product that is slip resistant and has a matte finish. The palette is quite limited but worked great with the wildlife theme. The images below are of the animals that make up the mosaic artwork of the splash pad. Unfortunately I never got great images of the mosaics installed, but happy to share these pictures of the mosaics still on my work table. I hope to get good photos of these splash pad mosaics on my next trip down...
LAUDERHILL PERFORMING ARTS CENTER, Lauderhill, FL
I was thrilled to get this commission to create 2 wall murals and enjoyed the mosaic process from start to finish - researching performers, creating the sketches, mosaic assembly and then finally mosaic installation. I had the assistance of my son Rory both in making the crates to ship everything to Florida as well as installation.
