PFAS, or per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, are a class of over 12,000 man-made chemicals called#"forever chem-icals” because they barely break down in the environment. They are now found everywhere from drinking water sup-plies to human blood and as depicted here, the ocean. Aside from these specific plastics, ocean trash is 90% plastic, and according to National Geographic, the amount of plastic trash flowing into the oceans every year is ex-pected to nearly triple by 2040 to 29 million metric tons.
