SCIENCE and MATH MOSAICS
Science and math mosaics are often on my work table. My first ever abstract mosaic is still my favorite of my entire body of work, and that is PAVEMENT FRACTALS. Somewhat regrettably this sold soon after I made it so I never really had a chance to live with it for very long. HOWEVER, in 2013 I had the pleasure of re-creating Pavement Fractals as a kitchen backsplash - on the kitchen page of my site. I really like using science and math concepts as starting points for mosaics, and expect this body of work to grow as time allows. Some of these science and math mosaics are for sale, contact me, cindy@bigbangmosaics.com if you are interested in prices.
Math Chronicle Trip-tych, 2020 3 framed panels, 18" x18" each. Here is a description included in the Joint Math Meeting 2021 exhibition: Creating Math Chronicle Triptych involved a lot of on-line research on developments in math over time - from the perspective of a humble non-math ARTIST. A few inclusions - panel 1 has math runes, the Pythagorean Theorem, 2 views of a pyramid, Mayan numbers; panel 2, math symbols - pi, square root, Isaac Newton’s ‘Passage of Waves through a hole’ formula; Gauss’17 sided polygon, and a parabola formula by Omar Khayyam. In Panel 3, Ricci Flow on a 2-D manifold (wikipedia) and a variety of doodles and mathematical explorations by Maryam Mirzakhani. The mosaic medium defines my artistic process and I believe lends itself well to the depiction of math principals.
