GUATEMALA 6, 2019  'Tolimoto, Mujeres de Guatemala'

My 6th trip to Guatemala for a mosaic project, in 2019 I brought 16 other mosaic artists down to create a mural and relax and enjoy the beautiful Hotel Toliman on Lake Atitlan.  I invited Deb Aldo, a good friend and pebble mosaic artist to be a co-organizer. The trip was a grand success, in great part due to the phenomenal group of individuals participating.

Darkening the sketch so lifework can be seen through the sticky mesh. My good friends Maria Eugenia and Nelson with the marker.

Laying tile, this process took 3 days. We use 1/4" ceramic tile, most of which is purchased in Guatemala City.

Jump forward to installation day! we placed each section upside down on a panel and then carefully maneuvered it up and into the thin-set troweled on the wall by the capable Denber, in the grey baseball hat.
