GUATEMALA 10, CASA FELIZ DONE! HOSPITAL MOSAIC 

It is now AUGUST and I am finally getting to posting our wonderful 2024 trips in March and April! Highlights this year include finishing all 5 portraits of elderly residents of San Lucas Toliman for the exterior wall of Casa Feliz and a mosaic requested by Duglas, a guitarist with a repair shop across the street which we were delighted to create for him. Dr. Tun, the chief physician at Hospital Monseñor Gregorio Schaffer asked for a mosaic to honor the nursing staff for their hard work and dedication during the COVID pandemic, it was SO cool to create this mosaic and then be able to identify some of the staff from the photo when we were on-site to do the installation.

Duglas in his Fender apron, note the same in the mosaic! Looking forward to when he repaints the wall as promised, the mosaics look SO much better when background is painted.

The inimitable nursing staff, all masked up, a gift to a mosaicist as it saves the challenging details of so many mouths!

Dr. Tun insisted he wanted no credit in the mosaic and did not want to be included in it. A local volunteer and hospital interpreter, Rosanna Medina suggested including THANK you in 3 languages spoken in town.

Each participant included their own flower for the mosaic we made for our dear friend Walter's dad's tombstone in the town cemetery.

Walter has been taking pictures of the mosaic projects since I first started coming to San Lucas. He also is the photographer who has supplied us with bird images over the years.

And where would I be without the wonderful DENBER, pictured on the right (with his brother who also helped on install day). I consider Denber my right hand man when it comes to putting our mosaics up on the concrete block walls around town.
