HOSPITAL MOSAICS
Mosaics in hospital settings brighten everyone's day. My skills as a children's book illustrator are readily apparent in work I have done for a variety of Children's Hospitals in several states. Below are some highlights. Some of the works were purchased others commissioned. Hospital mosaics include large wall murals as well as smaller wall hangings.
Installation in Miamisburg, OH, part of the Dayton Children's Hospital. Once again, the theme is FLIGHT. I am really pleased with this mural. The letters were created by a group of mosaic artists in Haiti, who I connected with through Laurel True who has worked with them many times. Also there are really cool dichromatic plexiglass shapes that mirror what is suspended from the ceiling of the first floor below, fabricated by Stephen Canneto of Columbus, OH.
DAYTON CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL The 3 mosaics above were projects installed in 2017 at Dayton Children's Hospital in Dayton and Miamisburg, OH. The small houses, flowers, shooting stars and butterflies were created by hospital staff and children as well as a small group of patients. 3-d ceramic elements were made by Sikiu Perez, a ceramicist I also worked with on the Inova murals in Fairfax, VA.
BOSTON CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL This grouping of mosaics was another project in 2017. 'BEACON STREET, Boston' was the theme for a new floor hallway at Children's Hospital, Boston. I used imagery from the area but in unexpected colors.

FAIRFAX INOVA Women and Children's Hospital, Fairfax, VA
This was a real fast track mosaic hospital project. I laid the first tiles on November 1st of 2015 and was installing all panels a mere 2 and a half months later - working right through Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s.
A unique aspect of this project was collaborating with Sikiu Perez, a ceramic artist from Connecticut, SikiuPerez.com. Her 3 dimensional brightly colored ceramics invite one and all to TOUCH their surfaces
CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL, BOSTON This installation in 2014 remains one of my favorite hospital projects. I made 40 round colorful abstracts, many with a science theme - based on microscopic images of cells, the DNA helix, mitosis, the spiral form...I could have continued making these ad infinitum. These are located in the entryway to the outpatient wing of the hospital in downtown Boston.
NEMOURS DUPONT CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL, Wilmington, DE
Most unfortunately I never got decent images of the mosaics I made for Nemours Dupont Children's Hospital in Wilmington, DE in 2014. The themes for the other 2 columns were tubing on the Delaware and a mermaid and underwater scene. Pictured here is Juan, a worker at the hospital who made the experience a more enjoyable one. This was a collaboration with Rhonda Heisler who created 3 other mosaic columns.

NEMOURS CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL, Orlando, FL 2012 Garden Season, a 5 paneled mosaic mural on the 4th floor garden area of the Nemours Children's Hospital, Orlando, FL. Mosaics drawn and assembled by children at Camp Boggy Creek in Eustis, Florida are the focal points. I went down to the camp and instructed the counselors in mosaic assembly, during the camp each new session had the opportunity to contribute to the mosaic.
These last hospital mosaics are a selection of the works I have created in health care that are not major projects; some were commissioned and others purchased.
